Most folks will agree that fruit smoothies are fairly easy to make. Toss a bunch of ripe fruit and some tasty liquid into your blender, and it’ll probably turn out just fine.
However, with most things in life, there’s a difference between knowing how to do something and being an artisan. Smoothies are no exception.
So what makes a smoothie exquisite instead of just good? Balance and harmony. As a harmonious and balanced life tends to be better quality than a life slapped together without any consideration, and this also applies to smoothies.
How do you know when your smoothie has achieved balance and harmony? When the flavors blend together so well that no single flavor dominates. A good test is to let someone taste the smoothie and ask them to guess what’s in it. They should have a hard time, they should be stumped. Color is the only clue they’ll have, so they’ll end up naming off a bunch of fruit that’s the same color as the smoothie, but not because they can actually taste those fruits. If they finally give up and ask you to tell them what’s in it, you’ll know your smoothie has achieved harmony and balance.
I made a ridiculous amount of smoothies during my No Sugar for 30 Days Challenge. Most of them turned out good, but this Almond Peach Smoothie stands out from the crowd.
Almond Peach Smoothie Recipe
½ cup orange juice
½ cup milk of your choice (I use So Delicious non-dairy coconut milk)
¼ cup almonds
½ teaspoon almond extract
1 peach or 5 oz (about ½ bag) of frozen peaches
½ banana
Toss everything into your blender and enjoy!
