During my 30 Day No Sugar Challenge I made a ridiculous amount of smoothies. Now, the reader ought to know that not every smoothie tastes good. You can’t just throw a bunch of stuff into your blender and expect the results to be amazing every time.
This is especially true for green smoothies, because as soon as you start putting vegetables into the mix, stuff can go seriously wrong. And a broccoli smoothie recipe? Oh my you are asking for trouble!
When I was a kid, my friends and I would dare each other to drink “suicide” drinks which were random concoctions of stuff from the fridge mixed together with the sole intent of being as gross as possible. That usually meant pouring lots of condiments together, making sure to go heavy on the mustard and pickle juice. I’m not sharing this so that you’ll lose your appetite. The point is that if you don’t chose the right ingredients for your green smoothie, you’ll end up with something that tastes a lot like one of these suicide drinks.
The key to making a tasty green smoothie is to use vegetables and fruits that get along with one another. Adding fruit to your green smoothie takes the edge off the vegetables and adds natural sweetness.
In this green smoothie recipe, we use broccoli and pineapple. While you aren’t likely to find broccoli and pineapple growing next to each other in the wild, they do form a pleasant harmony when they meet in your blender. This broccoli smoothie has a crisp and refreshing taste. And there aren’t many healthier activities than drinking broccoli!
Green Smoothie Recipe: Pineapple Broccoli Smoothie
- 1/2 cup non-dairy milk (see note below)
- 1/2 cup broccoli (chopped)
- 1 cup pineapple
- 1/2 cup green grapes
- 1/2 cup water
I use So Delicious unsweetened coconut milk because it is not too thick and has a mild milk taste that is not too coco-nutty. Toss everything into your blender and blend until smooth.
Smoothie Making Blender Tip:
The smoothie recipes you find here can be made in any blender. However, I use a Vitamix
